Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) Chairman Michael Parker and UK Ship Register Director Doug Barrow (pictured) spoke at the All Party Parliamentary Ports and Maritime Group at the Palace of Westminster on Monday. Michael Parker noted that his appointment and that of Doug Barrow demonstrate how the MCA and the Department for Transport have embraced the recommendations of the Maritime Growth Study in bringing commercial maritime experience to the UK Ship Register. He gave particular thanks to the Department for Transport and Treasury for their support. Doug Barrow emphasised the progress that is already being made. The UK Register now stands at 15.7 million gross tonnes, a 9% increase since 2015, and is soon to introduce a package fees option, a new website and an online ship registration service among other measures.
