Overview

UK dependent territory is made up from the United Kingdom, the Crown Dependencies (Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey) and the UK Overseas Territories (Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Montserrat, St Helena and the Turks & Caicos Islands) which operate shipping registers from their jurisdiction.

If you are intending to transfer out from the UK Ship Register to a UK dependent territory, depending on the type of vessel (Merchant, Large Yacht or Pleasure), the registration process can vary.

A vessels official number will remain the same on registries that are part of the Red Ensign Group.

How to apply

This can be completed via email or post (details below), you will be required to provide supporting documents and pay the appropriate fee, details are below.

An application will also have to be made with the UK Dependent Territory Registry.

Merchant Vessels (Part 1)

With the UK Ship Register online service you can manage your vessel registration and stay up to date with your applications progress.

If your vessel is already registered with the UK Ship Register, you will first need to claim your vessel to allow you to manage your vessel registration online, you will need proof of identity, your Certificate of Registry, and either the the Bill of Sale or a Declaration of ownership.

If you are intending to transfer out from the UK Ship Register to a UK dependent territory, depending on the type of vessel (Merchant, Large Yacht or Pleasure), the registration process can vary.

The online registration service will request various supporting documents and to pay the appropriate fee online in order to complete the transfer out.

A vessel official number will remain the same on registries that are part of the Red Ensign Group.

Large Yacht (Part 1)

A vessel must transfer out like for like e.g. a commercial vessel must transfer over to a dependent as a commercial vessel.

The following will need to be submitted by the owner

Application to change name and port 

Registration Fee

The UK Ship Register will send the following documents to the new registry to support the application to transfer:

  • ITC 69
  • Certificate of Survey
  • Transcript of Registry
  • Letter from the Mortgagee consenting to the transfer (if applicable)
  • Request to transfer port form.

A vessel official number will remain the same on registries that are part of the Red Ensign Group.

Pleasure Vessels (Part 1)

A vessel must transfer out like for like e.g. a pleasure vessel must transfer over to a dependent as a pleasure vessel.

The following will need to be submitted by the owner

Application to change name and port 

Registration fee

The UK Ship Register will send the following documents to the new registry to support the application to transfer:

  • ITC 69
  • Certificate of Survey
  • Transcript of Registry
  • Letter from the Mortgagee consenting to the transfer (if applicable)
  • Request to transfer port form
