Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 Ship's Cook Certificate of Competency

All Ship's Cooks are required to hold a maritime cooks qualification if they are working on vessels operating beyond 60 miles from a UK safe haven and with more than 10 seafarers on board.

Guidance for seafarers wanting information on how they can obtain this qualification and additional information on the Ship's Cook's syllabus is given in MSN 1846(M).

Food Safety; Food Hygiene

All personnel handling food in the galley for other seafarers must also be qualified in Food Safety or Food Hygiene. The minimum level of certificate is a UK Level 2. The list of qualifications that are recognised by the MCA is published in MIN 531(M)
