Energy Efficiency Technology Event

The MCA is hosting a FREE one-day Energy Efficiency Technology event to provide insights on the technology available now to help ship owners and operators reduce energy usage, and in turn reduce OPEX and emissions.

The measures we’ll be discussing have the potential to help meet new EEXI regulations, could be retrofitted or used for new tonnage and all have an estimated return on investment time of less than five years and target savings of between 3% - 20%.

The event will include information on:

  • Propulsion devices - including gate rudder, efficiency rudder and hub/boss fins.
  • Electrification - hybridisation and/or use of shaft generators.
  • Hull technology – including Hull Vanes, Antifouling and hull air lubrication.
  • Deck mounted devices such as the rotor sail.
  • Waste heat recovery – high and low temperature streams.
  • The Human Element – how human behaviour in the maritime environment can impact your operation and energy efficiency/OPEX.

Applicable technology will vary by vessel type and it may be possible to fit more than one technology to a vessel. For this reason, an overview of the technologies and the vessel type applicability will be delivered in the morning session, allowing guests to spend the afternoon session speaking with developers of technologies they want to investigate further.

During the last session of the day, we are offering the opportunity to take a voyage on Wightlink’s hybrid ferry. The Victoria of Wight combines battery power with conventional engines, using around 20% less fuel. During the just under two-hour return trip, delegates will be able to find out more about existing measures and enjoy a rare opportunity to visit the engine room and gain up-close insight of the hybrid technology.

Unfortunately, tickets for the in-person session and Wightlink hybrid ferry trip have now sold out, but we still have space for online attendance.

Date: Tuesday 29th November
Venue: Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, Action Stations.
Start: 9:00 am
