On 25 March 2025, the Department for Transport launched its ambitious Maritime Decarbonisation Strategy, setting a clear course toward a cleaner, greener maritime future. The strategy outlines bold targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030, 80% by 2040, and to reach net zero by 2050.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is proud to support this vision. As a champion of innovation, the MCA continues to play a leading role in enabling the sector’s transition, supporting initiatives like the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition and driving regulatory change.

The UK has long been at the forefront of maritime innovation, and this strategy reinforces our commitment to maintaining that leadership as we navigate toward a net-zero future.
