Verification of a UK Certificate of Competency (CoC) or Flag State Endorsement (FSE)
If you are a foreign maritime agency or an employer that needs to verify UK-issued Certificates of Competency (CoC) or Flag State Endorsements (Certificates of Equivalent Competency) you can do this online through our designated verification checker.

Please note the following if you are contacting our exams team:
- A full scan of the certificate is required for verification. This includes pages 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 and 13 of the old UK CoC book, or both sides of the new UK Certificate of Competency (CoC) card licence.
- Please ensure it is the most recent certificate. We cannot verify a certificate if a new endorsement has been issued.
- We cannot verify to individuals; a company or Institution will need to email us with full scanned copies of the relevant documents or certificates to receive verification.

If you are a foreign maritime agency or an employer that needs to verify other UK issued certificates, such as a Watch Rating Certificate or GMDSS Endorsement, please send across full scans of documentation for certificate verification to exams@mcga.gov.uk and we will provide a response as soon as possible.
