The views of seafarers were at the heart of a special spring forum hosted at the Maritime and Coastguard Agency’s HQ.
Professional mariners attended the event in Southampton where they were able to ask questions, make suggestions to enhance services, and hear from MCA Chief Executive Virginia McVea.
The day featured discussions, workshops and interactive presentations with other senior MCA officials, including Lars Lippuner, Director of UK Customer Service.
The 13 attendees came from across the UK on 20 March, representing a range of different seafarer ranks and careers.
They shared their experiences and ideas, such as what the MCA does well, how it can improve services, and ways to make the maritime industry more inclusive and diverse.
The seafarers also contributed to discussions about the International Maritime Organization’s comprehensive review of the Convention and Code on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW).
Virginia said: "The Seafarers Forum is an opportunity to thank the people who work so hard in the maritime sector and exchange information from the frontlines.
"We reaffirmed our commitment to support their work in every way possible, and I hope to hold another Seafarers Forum again."
