Bareboat Vessel Renewal of Registration (Part 4)

An owner or charterer can renew a vessel’s registration within three months of the vessel registration expiry date or charter end date. Owners will be sent an invitation to renew the vessel registration up to three months prior to the vessel registration expiry date or charter end date.

Renewing the registration of a bareboat vessel costs £72.

Renew online

You can use the UK Ship Register online service to renew.

Before you can renew online, ensure you have created an account for the UK Ship Register's online service and claimed your vessel. See our guidance on managing your registration online for more information.

By using the online registration service there is no need to sign or return any documents, as any required documents can be uploaded directly, and payments can be made online.

To renew the bareboat registration, you will need to upload:

  • A copy of the Bareboat charter party agreement confirming the new end date of the charter (if applicable)
  • Consent to extend/renew the registration from the primary register

Renew by post or email  

Please note, all owners must sign any renewal notice and we cannot accept digital signatures.

By email:

Complete the Renewal notice and attach a clear scan or photo of the completed form to an email. Return it with a copy of the current Certificate of Registry to uksr@mcga.gov.uk

To renew by post:

Complete the Renewal notice and return it with your current Certificate of Registry to the address at the bottom of this page.

If renewing by post or email the application will need to be include:

  • A copy of the Bareboat charter party agreement confirming the new end date of the charter (if applicable)
  • Consent to extend or renew the registration from the primary register

If renewing by email or post, please ensure you pay the £72 renewal fee via GOV.UK secure payment link. 

If you do not want to renew

You do not need to do anything. We will stop the registration automatically when it runs out. The vessel's name will no longer be reserved for you and may be used immediately by another applicant.
