An owner can renew a vessel’s registration three months prior to the expiry date, and will be sent an invitation letter to renew.
Renewing the registration costs £72. If you want to renew the registration, you can use the UK Ship Register online service or renew by email or post.
If the vessel is less than 24m registered or loadline length, we will need to see a copy of the vessel's Code or appropriate safety certificate to renew the registration. This can be uploaded during the online renewal application or attached to an email.
Renew online
By using the UK Ship Register online service there is no requirement to sign or return any documents, and payment can be made online as part of the renewal process.
Before you can renew online, ensure you have created an account for the UK Ship Register's online service and claimed your vessel. See our guidance on managing your registration online for more information.
Renew by email or post
If you want to renew by post, complete the renewal notice and return it with your current Certificate of Registry (see address below).
If you want to renew by email, complete the renewal notice and attach a clear scan or photo of the completed form to an email, and send it with a copy of the current Certificate of Registry to uksr@mcga.gov.uk
If renewing by email or post, please ensure you pay the Part 1 £72 renewal fee via GOV.UK secure payment link (for five year period).
Please note, when renewing a pleasure vessel by post or email, all owners must sign the renewal notice and we cannot accept digital signatures.
If you do not want to renew
You do not need to do anything. We will stop the registration automatically when it runs out, the vessel's name will no longer be reserved for you and may be used immediately by another applicant.
